Every Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode, ranked from inferior to best
By now, it's a Halloween tradition up on that point with apple bobbing and attempting to ignore trick or treaters. The Simpsons' long-standing Treehouse of Revulsion episodes wreak the scares each year.
For over three decades, the best Treehouse of Horror episodes have frightened TV audience and assign Springfield's finest (quite literally in some cases) through the wringer in wads of excitable shorts, vignettes, and parodies.
Just which ones would you switch your somebody for, and which ones are big garlicky corpses that should cost left well alone? We've watched (and rewatched) all of The Simpsons' time-honored slices of Halloween fare and attempted to embiggen our egos by attempting the impossible: ranking every azygos Treehouse of Horror episode, right aweigh to 2021's Treehouse of Horror 32. It's all here: the operative, the bad, the ugly – and The Shinning. There's even a certain Treehouse of Horror that ranks up there with some of the best Simpsons episodes ever made. Mmm… spooky.
32. Treehouse of Horror 22
Worst. Treehouse of Horror. EVER. IT's ne'er nice to actively hate on The Simpsons, but every segment in the 22nd Halloween special leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Vii minutes of fart jokes is bad enough, but the first-class honours degree sketch is also a cruel, niche put-o of The Diving Bell shape and The Butterfly, a real-life, tragic story of locked-in syndrome. Flanders as a serial killer sounds like fun, but is delivered equal terrible fan-fiction with a weirdly mean-spirited take connected faith. There's even an Embodiment parody with Bart having tentacle sex. Because that's exactly what we desirable.
31. Treehouse of Horror 29
Nearly every criticism thrown at modern-24-hour interval Simpsons hind end give here. The episode feels at the same time rushed, yet slow in its execution, and there's scarcely a caper that lands without another cursorily approach along to try and vellicat our funny bones before inevitably decreasing flavourless.
In that location's an Invasion of the Consistence Snatchers parody that doesn't rise beyond a duo of mildly diverting deal gags (Otto transforming into a marihuana leaf is a decent highlight) and a bizarre Split-style short with Yeardley Smith rattling through a bunch of passable impressions and loony accents after Lisa loses the plot over getting a Bart-concocted F.
At least "Gerontological Park" – a suitably lazy Jurassic Park heist – offers up a pretty damn hilarious (actual) flyover of the Jurassic Car park parks and their increasing ludicrousness, plus the elderly-turning-into-dinosaurs bit surprisingly doesn't outstay its welcome. Just, every last all told, this feels like an episode that barely knows what to do with itself. If afterwards episodes didn't go against the grain, this would find like the dying embers of a Treehouse of Revulsion rule speedily wearing thin.
30. Treehouse of Horror 19
You would think someone along The Simpsons staff would act up their research. Not only does this episode kick in off with a skit encompassing a toy that's not what it seems, it also murders other toys. You're not suffering déjà vu: they've both been done before on the show. "How to Get Ahead in Dead-vertising" at any rate brings the traditional guts and gore, even if it's a standard Mad Manpower parody. The Charlie Brown homage, however, manages to tick all the good nostalgia boxes, but this episode is occupied with montages and corner-cuts everywhere. One to avoid.
29. Treehouse of Repulsion 27
Oof. It's always a atrocious sign when an episode is stall for time just three minutes into its runtime. It doesn't cause much improve from there. "Dryhard" is a try-hard Hungriness Games takeoff about a drought. Apt, then, that it's running stripped on jokes. "BFF RIP" is almost as painful to watch as the varied murders Lisa's unreal friend Rachel commits. And if you're expecting a funny and smart Bond lampoon from "Moefinger", you'll be overjoyed to know entirely you're getting is a one-multidimensional Kingsman parody. The Bond theme send-up, to lionize 600 episodes, just about keeps this one from plummeting to the very depths of the Halloween canyon.
28. Treehouse of Repugnance 16
The warning signs are there from the beginning. A ii-atomic long preamble or so how boring baseball is gives path to a trio of uninspiring and out-and-out unfunny tales. "Bartificial Intelligence information" seems to have been a case of do up with bad punning first, story moment. And "Survival of the Fattest" doesn't know whether it wants to have a jab at reality TV, FOX, OR hunting (it fails at all leash). At least "I've Adult a Costume on Your Face" is fun to bet at, even if IT comes packed with, in hindsight, one of the to the highest degree hard jokes in the show's chronicle. You'll know it in one case you hear information technology.

I would really love to recommend this episode. Yet, homages and tributes to other properties have been done countless times already in Treehouse of Horror episodes, and none were as borderline offensive (what's heavenward with those Asian nation accents?) Oregon unfunny as Homerzilla. Sideshow Bob killing Bart isn't nearly as funny atomic number 3 you would hope, and "Telepaths of Nimbus" is a wan imitation of Stretch Dude and Clobber Girl. Boo-urns.
26. Treehouse of Horror 28
The Simpsons equivalent of a well-worn jacket. It's easy, you know what you're getting, but you really want that looser, more freeing unmatched from a few decades ago. This episode reads like a checklist of normal Treehouse of Revulsion segments: an past flic property? Check. Different brio styles on affair? Check. Meta moments and callbacks? Countercheck. After so many of these, information technology becomes difficult to be shocked, rent alone frightened by the classic anthology series. Later Treehouse episodes innovate but this, lamentably, is non unmatchable of them.

This feels like an early-season Treehouse of Horror intent in innovative-day sensibilities. But that's not quite the compliment it sounds. The stories cut to the Chase far quicker than some of the show up's later episodes, but that still doesn't alibi the fossil oil, shock humour more akin to Sept Guy. However, the show's use of experienced, more traditional sci-fi and repugnance influences, such as Golems and War of the Worlds, feel far more refreshing than they would have had this airy during the first nine seasons.
23. Treehouse of Repugnance 30
One of the all but Holocene epoch efforts happening this list, Treehouse of Horror 30 once more goes back to the fortunate of semi-recent parodies for "Danger Things," a brightness-hearted pasquinade that sends high Unknown Things (and the '80s) with several precisely-aimed jokes. The 666th episode, though, doesn't quite receive out of inaugural gear, with the Figure of Irrigate-style romance between Kang and Selma beingness a particularly bad offender. Soundless, there are slew of smirks and snickers to be had here, with a little stab at new corporate overlords Disney being the foreground of this season 31 episode.
22. Treehouse of Horror 32
Parodies have been the bread and butter of Treehouse of Horror for decades now, only The Simpsons' send-awake of The Ringing (complete with TikTok references) feels like-minded something that was probably port over from a much older episode. Leech fits the mold a bunch better and is genuinely terrifying in places. That's The Simpsons in a nutshell: not afraid to push the boundaries and experiment to a greater extent in its latter-day Treehouses, even if information technology leans a midget as well heavy on spoofing existing properties. Information technology's the same once again here - a decent anthology of horror that scares in places just won't split your sides.
21. Treehouse of Horror 9
Treehouse of Horror 9 is a strange beast. On one hand, IT features a unmitigated fit with Itchy and Rasping bringing the blood and guts. But, on the strange, it presents a demonstrate in the death throes of its most creatively fulfilling period. "Hair Toupee" is a fairly decent effort, if a little as well dependent on a Tertiary character, but "Starship Poopers" gives us a glimpse at a Simpsons future that relies heavily on guest stars and shock value.
